Drop-In
Centre for Youth.
The aim of the Drop-In Centre is to provide a space where young
people can engage and interact with other young people, adult leaders
/ youth workers in a comfortable and safe environment. Membership
is voluntary and young people attend as often as they choose.
Objectives
- To
be a non-judgmental initiative where all participating young people
can have a voice;
- To
seek to empower local young people and to actively seek to encourage
them to participate at all levels within society;
- To
provide the opportunity for young people to reflect upon their
experiences and to further learn from them;
- To
support young people to recognise their own choices and to act
upon them;
- To
positively challenge young people on issues which affect their
lives;
- For
young people to engage in the process on a voluntary basis;
- To
be a form of intervention which is needs based and flexible, which
centres on the interests of the young people involved and in turn
leads to new opportunities and experiences; and
- To
act as a bridge between the young people and the community in
order to facilitate the reintegration of many marginalised young
people back into the community.
